The GTA is transforming into a magical wonderland this holiday season. From concerts to festivals to light displays and more, here are some can’t-miss festive activities happening in your area.

Home Alone in Concert

If you’re looking to take your Christmas movie watching to the next level, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra is hosting Home Alone in Concert from December 7th to 10th. Watch Kevin McCallister get left at home and the shenanigans that ensue while listening live to renowned composer John Williams’ score. Held at Roy Thomson Hall, this two-hour event is conducted by Constantine Kitsopoulos, a dynamic conductor who has performed around the world. Additionally, in partnership with Toys for Tots, there are donation boxes for new, unwrapped toys around the venue. You can buy tickets online at their website.

Winterfest at Canada’s Wonderland

If you’re looking for the perfect family activity, immerse yourself in the festive fairyland that is the fourth annual Winterfest at Canada’s Wonderland. This enchanting experience offers fun for all ages, including ice skating, cookie decorating with Mrs. Claus, over a dozen live shows and access to 23 of the best rides. There are millions of lights illuminating the park with hundreds of Christmas trees to put you in the holiday spirit. There are even two 50-foot Christmas trees on International Street that are lit nightly. If you’re looking for an immersive festive experience with seasonal activities, food and merchandise, make sure to head to Vaughan before January 6th. Chris, Mrs. - A New Holiday Musical

A Hallmark movie comes to life in Chris, Mrs., a new holiday musical enjoying its world premiere at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto. Curmudgeonly father Ben Chris and his socialite girlfriend Vicki, accompanied by his twin children Samuel and Samantha, head to their late father’s lodge to convince Ben’s brother Charlie to sell the property. When the kids discover a ring in their father’s suitcase, they ask Santa for help. Enter Holly, a seasonal employee working at the lodge. Will Charlie and Holly be able to work some Christmas magic and save the lodge? It’s sure to be a holiday everyone will remember.

This family friendly show contains multi-generational storylines that all can connect to. What’s more, the production is fully Canadian, with the writers originating from this great nation along with 17 Canadian actors who have spanned stages of Shaw Festival, Stratford and Broadway. Running just over two hours, this show is sure to have you laughing, cheering and feeling the festive spirit. Tickets can be purchased here with discount offerings for groups of eight or more.

Gift of Lights and Jingle Bell Rock

Head out on your own festive journey with the Gift of Lights and Jingle Bell Rock tour at Bingemans in Kitchener/Waterloo. Running until January 6th, this event has over 300 light displays and tunnels. The centrepiece of the extravaganza: a 40-foot LED tree full of twinkling lights. You can either drive through this event in your vehicle or attend their special walk-only nights, where 50% of proceeds are donated to their community partners. Tickets are offered at the door or online for a reduced price.

Mississauga Festival of Trees

The third-annual Mississauga Festival of Trees is in full swing from now until December 17th. This event offers live performances and workshops along with artisan and culinary markets. The trees are commissioned art pieces from local artists. With 40+ vendors and six performers, this is sure to be a fun night. Pay what you can at the door.
