Why Thorncliffe Park is a Great Neighbourhood for Kids

Thorncliffe Park is a booming, culturally rich neighbourhood near Toronto's East York region.

More than 90% of the Thorncliffe Park community are renters, with over 50% of these renters consisting of families, especially ones with young children. Residents at our 8 Milepost Place property already enjoy a variety of coveted amenities and entertainment spots steps from home, many of which cater to the family-friendly environs of Thorncliffe Park.

Here are a few reasons why Thorncliffe Park is a great neighbourhood for kids.

The Parks

Thorncliffe Park is part of a chain of parks that run along the Don River. Of these, E.T. Seton Park is the largest, enveloping the entire eastern half of the area. There are bike trails, ponds, picnic sites, and even a disc golf course located within the park's grounds. The 3.4 hectare Leaside Park boasts an outdoor swimming pool, a ball diamond, six tennis courts, a multipurpose field and a playground. There's also the community garden at R.V. Burgess Park, which is one of the best in the city. This park also features a basketball court and a splash pad for the little ones.

The Shopping

Home to over 75 shops and services, the East York Town Centre is a Thorncliffe Park staple. Parents can shop for children's clothing essentials at Once Upon a Child and VR Kids. There are medical offices, grocery stores and a Kumon Math and Reading center. The mall also holds frequent events for the community, so your kids can enjoy hours of family-friendly fun!

There's a plethora of plazas lined up along Overlea Boulevard that house local shops and restaurants. Thorncliffe Park also offers a SmartCentre with tenants such as Winners, Sport Chek, Roots, Best Buy and Sobeys. If that's not enough, a massive, brand new Costco is located only a four-minute drive away from 8 Milepost Place.

The Ontario Science Centre

You can't mention Thorncliffe Park without talking about the Ontario Science Centre. This museum is a city icon and offers hours of fun and education for people of all ages! The Centre has around 500 interactive exhibits, plus its famous IMAX Dome theatre. They even offer summer day camps for children ranging from four to twelve years old. Become a member and enjoy free admission, discounts on day camps, free parking and a few other great benefits.

The Schools

Thorncliffe Park offers fantastic schools for kids of all ages, including Thorncliffe Park Public School, Fraser Mustard Early Learning Academy, and Valley Park Middle School. The neighbourhood is also home to Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute, which features a Talented Offerings for Programs in the Sciences (TOPS) program. This puts it on the list as one of the best schools in all of Canada for students that want to study maths and sciences.
