Spring has always been a great time to do a major cleanup, a time to declutter your apartment by getting rid of things you no longer need. Unfortunately, with any big cleanup comes dust. Here are a few tips on how to reduce dust in your apartment.

Use a damp cloth

Traditional dusters are not the way to go when trying to reduce dust in your apartment. They actually just move the dust around. Instead, use a damp cloth to wipe your furniture, knick-knacks and whatever else needs to be regularly dusted. This will ensure that dust is trapped and absorbed by the cloth.

Change the sheets regularly

Fabrics accumulate things like skin particles, pet fur and dust mites. Changing the sheets on a weekly basis will help to reduce the dust in your apartment. This includes washing your comforter and pillow. And don’t forget about the curtains!

Take off your shoes

Every time you leave your apartment your shoes are collecting things, including dust. Be sure to remove your shoes when you enter your apartment to ensure that you’re not bringing in any dust. Purchase a doormat on which people can wipe the soles of their shoes before removing them.

Clean floors often

Sweeping and washing the floors in your apartment will help to remove dust. This should be done at least once a week to ensure that the dust on the floor doesn’t float up and/or circulate around the room.

Buy an air purifier

Dust, dirt and stale air can be reduced by using an air purifier. Air purifiers have a filter and often a nice smell, which will leave your apartment smelling fresh and clean on a daily basis. It will trap and help reduce dust in the air. Opt for one with a HEPA filter for maximum efficiency.
